GATES / Technical Information
WELDING
All our gates are skilfully manufactured to the customers chosen design. We offer a range of standard designs although often a customer will have a specific design in mind or we can customise a standard design by altering the arrowheads, infill bars or some other feature.
We take great care in the welding process as this is where the quality literally shines through when powdercoated. Where possible all our welds are either hidden or polished smooth. Vertical bars are a substantial 20mm shs, not 16mm and are fully welded all the way round not just tacked back and front.
GALVANISING
To last a lifetime all our gates are completely immersed in molten zinc, a process known as hot dipped galvanising.
Only this process guarantees that every crevice is protected against rust.
POLISHING
This is here an Oxley gate excels. To get an immaculate surface for the satin gloss powdercoat to shine, the gate is then sanded smooth. This process alone can take a day or more to undertake completely. Many a more expensive gate manufacturer do not bother with this process, preferring just to primer and paint on the top coat, which hide imperfections.
POWDERCOATING
To give a tough durable finish all Oxley gates up to certain oven limits, are powder coated. The gate is electrostatically sprayed with a dry powder which magnetically adheres to the steel. Our normal colour is gloss satin black however the gate can be coated almost in any colour provided it is within the BS/RAL colour range.
BAKING
The gate is baked in an oven until the powder melts, flows and smoothly bonds with the steel.
The gate is too hot to touch, a heat treatment which has the spin off benefit of removing any welding stresses preventing possible future fractures.
